In between game industry events
This summer has proved to be very busy for ICO Partners. We attended a good number of events while still working for our different clients for a variety of projects. We went to GC Online in Leipig, to Gamescom in Cologne, had a stealth visit of PAX in Seattle (and left flu-free) and we just got back the GDC Austin in Texas. The travelling is almost over.
Almost.
Next week, both Thomas and Diane will be in Korea. Read the rest of this entry »

Develop in Brighton Free to Play lecture : slides shared
The lecture went really well, even if Thomas didn’t have time to insert a few Bastille Day jokes ! The slides can be downloaded here and seen below:
To renew the disclaimer in the presentation, a lot of the numbers are estimates based on various sources. If you have official numbers for any of those games, please contact us and we’ll update it!

Thomas speaking at Develop on free-to-play in Europe
Brighton’s Develop conference kicks off this week, and tomorrow, Tuesday 14th, ICO’s own Thomas Bidaux will be hosting a session on free-to-play games in Europe as part of its new Evolve track. In The European Free to Play Market, he’ll be giving an overview of Europe’s most successful F2P titles, the companies behind them, and the features that make them work. The session runs from 11.45 to 12.30.
Thomas will also be part of a panel discussion about how NESTA’s mentoring programme has helped developers to survive and succeed: it’s called Why Grey Matters – How to Grow Your Business, and it’s on Wednesday 15th at 11 am.
Diane and Jen will be in Brighton on Wednesday too, so if you’d like to meet up with one or more of us, please get in touch!

GDC09 – The slides shared
As promised during the lecture last week, we are sharing the presentation used as a support. For those who couldn’t attend, it should help you get the main items covered then (even though there is nothing like the real thing). At the end of the presentation, the main question was on the demographics and the numbers that we mentioned : the general numbers on Europe came from official census, most of the time done by some EU entity; numbers from the games that don’t have a source cited are estimates, based on publicly available data.
Note the presentation format make some slides difficult to read in Slideshare. You can always download the full presentation from the site though.
You can also find a write-up of the session on Adam Martin’s blog.

GDC09 lecture teaser
GDC is now only a few weeks away, and we are busy planning meetings and giving some final touches to the lecture.
As a reminder, we will be speaking at GDC, during the Worlds in Motion Summit. The session is on the 23rd of March, at 4.15pm, in the North Hall (room 132).
We actually wanted to share here a teaser of the many topics that the session is going delve into. A lot of the focus is on explaining Europe and the market of online games in Europe and how it is different from the North American market. Read the rest of this entry »
